Talk:Potassium perchlorate

From PyroGuide

Jump to: navigation, search

Potassium perchlorate is much more expensive than the chlorate (at least +50%). KClO4 isnĀ“t toxic, only harmful.

What is the difference in effect between Potassium Perchlorate, Potassium Chlorate and Potassium Nitrate? Can you interchange them without altering the whole composition?

You can pretty much interchange Potassium Chlorate and Potassium Perchlorate, except when there is any contact with sulfur (i.e. black powder, fuse, etc...) you cannot use Chlorate because it becomes very sensitive when in contact with sulfur.

Potassium Nitrate can't really be interchanged at all... But for flash instead of Potassium Perchlorate\Chlorate 70:30 w\ dark pyro Al you can use a 50:30:20 of Potassium Nitrate:Al:Sulfur...

[edit] KClO4

two questions:

1) can KClO4 be used as a chlorine donor???

2) is KClO4 a better oxidizer than KClO3 (oxidation/speed of decomposition)???
